Two private companies have applied to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) for relief from Hours of Service (HOS) rules that could lift those restrictions for five years. The first key step toward turning into law the sweeping surface transportation bill was approved overwhelmingly Friday by the House Transportation & Infrastructure (T&I) committee, raising the question of which of its many provisions is the most significant for the trucking sector.
